Montecristo No. 5

The Montecristo No. 5 is the ‘smallest’ Montecristo, but it should not be underestimated because of its size. It is the fifth of the five original sizes with which the brand was founded by Alonso Menéndez in 1935.

The evocative name alone conjures up memories for every aficionado of their childhood and their first encounter with Alexandre Dumas’s novel *The Count of Monte Cristo*. The similarity in name is no coincidence, but stems from the fact that the novel was one of the favourite reads of the storytellers for the torcedores at the H. Upmann factory, where it was originally hand-rolled. So, when it came to finding a fitting name for these top-of-the-range Habanos, a consensus was quickly reached.

Cigar exterior: Fine wrapper with a slight sheen.
Cigar construction: Medium roll, well-made.
Smoke: Creamy with a subtle sweetness and medium smoke volume.
Flavour: Earth , leather, wood, pepper, toast and coffee
Burn: Good burn
