DESCRIPTION
Sir Winston Churchill was not a man who adhered to convention. Whilst most people were thinking about their daily lives, he was pondering the best way to govern a country or command an Allied advance. His creativity did not fade when the streetlights went out. For Sir Winston was a man who saw the night as a source of inspiration and drive. Darkness was his driving force. And now Davidoff is celebrating this legendary facet of his character with the Winston Churchill – The Late Hour cigar.
When the end of the evening marks the beginning of something new. And when the night is filled with interesting thoughts and discussions, then the time has come for the Davidoff Winston Churchill – The Late Hour. The cigar itself should be the subject of conversation, for it has its own unique story. Its tobacco has been aged in casks of the finest Scotch single malt whisky. This lends the cigar a unique complexity, depth and exceptionally rich flavours, which will stimulate both your palate and your conversations. ‘Everyone has his day and some days last longer than others,’ Sir Winston used to say. Savour this exquisite cigar by day or by night and let the moment inspire you.
Ageing in whisky casks
The blend of Winston Churchill – The Late Hour contains Condega Visus tobacco, which is aged in the finest Scotch single malt whisky casks.
The tobacco leaves are compressed inside the casks and sealed tightly. The compression raises the temperature inside the casks, triggering the fermentation process.
Over these six months, the tobacco absorbs the flavours of the cask and the whisky. Maturing in the cask gives rise to the sweet notes and full-bodied flavour.
Afterwards, the tobacco is ready to be rolled into the blend.
The taste experience
To reflect the darkness of the night when Sir Winston was at his most creative, Davidoff has selected a glossy and oily Habano wrapper from Ecuador in a rich, dark chocolate hue.
The two Nicaraguan filler tobaccos, grown in the mineral-rich volcanic soils of Condega and Estelí, lend the cigar its spice and character. In particular, the Condega Visus from Nicaragua, which is aged in original Scotch single malt whisky casks, gives the cigar a mysterious sweetness and depth of flavour.
The two different Visus filler tobaccos from the Dominican Republic, combined with the dark Mexican binder, create the complexity of this full-bodied blend. Distinct flavours and aromas delight the palate with shifting notes of black pepper, dark coffee, sweetness, aged leather, wood and spice. This facet of Sir Winston’s character could not have been better captured in The Late Hour cigar blend.
Pairing
If you’re enjoying the Winston Churchill – The Late Hour cigar with a drink, we recommend ensuring that the drink complements the cigar’s leathery, woody and complex flavour notes.
Ideally, this would be a full-bodied, spicy rum that is not too sweet, or a whisky that is neither too peaty nor too smoky, but which boasts rich and complex aromas and flavours.
As one of the filler tobaccos has been aged in the finest Scotch single malt whisky casks, the drink should have a rich and multifaceted flavour to harmonise with the sophisticated character of the Winston Churchill – The Late Hour cigars.
