Packaging made from recycled material
Our packaging contains a high proportion of recycled material and is designed to ensure stability despite the high proportion of recycled material. The paper used to cushion the cigars is made from 100% recycled material.
The cardboard that we receive from our suppliers is collected by us and pressed into bales. These are then sent back to our cardboard supplier and used for new cardboard boxes. Around 100kg of new cardboard is produced from 105kg of returned cardboard.
Electricity from solar energy
At our site at Ebnat 65 in Schaffhausen, we are fortunate to have a powerful solar system installed on the roof. It is dimensioned in such a way that it can supply the entire site with electricity.
All print products are produced CO2 neutral
For all printed inserts from zigarrenversand.ch, the amount of CO2 emitted is offset individually for each print job. This works by offsetting the amount of greenhouse gases emitted in a climate protection project, thereby restoring the climate balance.

Forests are among the most important CO2 reservoirs on the planet, harbour an enormous diversity of species and are the basis of life for all people. However, global forest areas have declined sharply in recent decades due to increasing settlement, agricultural use, illegal deforestation and the extraction of raw materials.
Forest conservation in Peru
Forest conservation projects ensure that forests are preserved in the long term and that the protection of the forest is more important than its deforestation. Project participants work together with the local population to protect the area from negative impacts. To this end, the projects create alternative sources of income and educational programmes. Depending on the project region, forests store different amounts of CO2 per hectare. A particularly large amount of carbon is stored in the vegetation and soil of tropical swamp forests, primary rainforests or mangroves.Hydropower in Turkey
The Hamzali project comprises the construction and operation of a run-of-river power plant with a capacity of 16.7 MW. The power plant utilises the water of the Kızılırmak River, whose source is in eastern Anatolia . As the longest Turkish river, it flows over 1,000 kilometres into the Black Sea. As it carries very different amounts of water depending on the season, it is dammed to generate electricity. The annual production is around 127 GWh. At the same time, an irrigation system was set up as part of the project, which benefits regional agriculture. 9.600 hectares of land that were previously not cultivated can now be used for agriculture. This creates additional jobs in a region that is characterised by strong migration due to a lack of economic development . The dam guarantees a minimum flow of water, which prevents negative impacts on aquatic fauna.
Wind energyin Aruba
The electricity supply on the Caribbean island of Aruba is mainly dependent on
diesel and other fossil fuels. With two major disadvantages:
They have to be imported expensively from abroad. And they cause
considerable amounts of CO2 emissions. In contrast, our climate protection project
is doing pioneering work by utilising the natural energy resource of the
island: the wind.
An
wind farm with ten turbines and a total output of 30 megawatts
was built on the east coast in Vader Piet. Every year, 126.1 gigawatt hours are generated here, up to 15
per cent of Aruba's total electricity production. The project saves around 152,783 tonnes of CO2 per
year, which electricity from fossil fuels
would cause. And it strengthens the independent energy supply on
Aruba. As Aruba's first wind farm, Vader Piet is also regarded as an important
pioneering project for renewable energies in the entire region.
Our server draws its energy from water
Behind every high-performance online shop is a server in a data centre. In addition to operating the server, a lot of energy is used to cool the server systems. The data centre in which we have rented our server is operated with electricity from 100% hydropower and is certified as "climate-neutral".
