The legendary cigar connoisseur Avo Uvezian was born in Beirut in 1926 and inherited his passion for music, particularly classical and jazz, from his parents. By his late teens, he was already enjoying great success in the Middle East with his jazz trio, the ‘Lebanon Boys’, and served as the personal pianist to the Shah of Persia. Later, his success took him to New York, where he also discovered his passion for fine cigars. In the early 1980s, he settled in Puerto Rico and opened a restaurant where he gave his guests cigars from his own production free of charge. The first step had now been taken; he had gone from cigar connoisseur to cigar manufacturer. In his search for the finest tobaccos, his path led him to the Dominican Republic, where, together with Hendrik Kelner, he determined the tobacco blends for the famous AVO cigars. Cohiba
Cohiba is the top brand among Habanos. It was created personally for Máximo Líder Fidel Castro in 1966. Its place of origin was a big secret for a long time, as nobody was supposed to know where it came from. For a long time, Cohiba was basically the unofficial house brand of the state leadership and practically impossible to get hold of outside this circle. Zino Davidoff was born in Kiev in 1906, the son of a tobacco merchant. At the age of five, the Davidoff family was forced to move to Geneva due to the political situation, where his father, Henri Davidoff, opened a tobacco shop. Zino Davidoff followed in his father's footsteps and took over the business. He travelled extensively, deepening his knowledge of tobacco more and more.
Zino Davidoff invented the first humidor
Thanks to Zino's vision, the Davidoff family built the world's first air-conditioned Davidoff Humidor in their shop in Geneva. His invention is still a figurehead for every tobacconist today. He later developed a humidification system that laid the foundation for today's table humidors.

Partagas
No brand is as closely associated with Cuba’s capital as Partagás. Thanks to the tobacco factory’s location right in the heart of the capital, the close bond between Havana and Partagás has grown over time and, after more than 170 years, is now inseparable. The great patron Don Jaime Partagás gave his name to both the factory and the Habanos – since 1845!Connoisseurs of Havana are aware of the proximity of the Partagás factory to the Capitol, which lies just a stone’s throw away at the famous Calle Industria Número 520. The impressive building vividly illustrates just how long Cuba’s, and particularly Havana’s, history has been shaped by tobacco cultivation.
Plasencia
Nestor Plasencia was born in Cuba in 1950 and was practically born into the world of tobacco and cigars. His family had been in the tobacco business for generations and had a wealth of experience in the cultivation and manufacture of cigars. In 1959, his family was forced to flee to Nicaragua due to the revolution and built a new life there with tobacco plantations. Following the Sandinista Revolution in 1979, Nestor Plasencia lost all his plantations and factories once again, and they fled to Honduras. There, they established new plantations and opened cigar factories. And they did so with great success, for today they are among the most important cigar producers in Central America.In 1986, around one million cigars were produced in their factories. Ten years later, they were already producing 33 million cigars. They now produce cigars in Nicaragua once again. Today, the senior and junior members of the family, who share the same name, manage over 2,000 km² of land and employ more than 5,000 people. Among other brands, Rocky Patel cigars are produced in their factories. The Plasencia family has continued to advance tobacco cultivation and produced the first organically certified tobacco, which is used in the Plasencia Reserva Original.
Romeo y Julieta
The brand was founded in 1875 by Alvàrey y Garcìa and taken over in 1903 by Rodrìguez Fernandez, who made the brand world-famous through targeted and skilful marketing campaigns. For example, he was able to win over the then British Prime Minister Winston Churchill for the brand and renamed the former Julieta No. 2 format to Romeo y Julieta Churchills which still bears the golden belly band with his name today. The name of the manufactory is of course based on the tragic heroes of William Shakespeare's novel of the same name.The tobaccos come exclusively from the Vuelta Abajo and give the cigar a classic medium-bodied character. Good quality begins with the cultivation of the tobacco plants and ends with professional storage. With us, you can be sure that a particularly high quality prevails and at the same time variety is a top priority, because your satisfaction is particularly important to us. But which is the best cigar? That is quite simply up to the eye of the beholder, because taste is debatable. One of the best known and most popular is certainly the Cuban cigar - and not for nothing: Cuba's cigar production is not only based on a centuries-old tradition, but also on the quality of the products. This is partly due to the special growing conditions, the climate and also the good soil conditions, which produce the aromatic leaves.
After harvesting, the leaves are further processed into the cigars that so many people love. Before the rolling process, the leaves are checked for appearance and quality. After sorting, the leaves that are found to be good undergo a second fermentation process that makes the tobacco edible.
The cigars are then rolled, wrapped with the binder leaf and moulded into their final shape by a press. The final step, which is also the most important step for the flavour, is the selection of the wrapper. Once this has been cut to size, it is wrapped tightly around the binder and filler.
And et voila: We have our cigar.
