DESCRIPTION
Island Jim No. 2 Barber Pole – Boutique charm with a Caribbean feel
The Island Jim No. 2 Barber Pole by Oscar Valladares stems from the well-known Leaf by Oscar range, which originally began as a small boutique project at ‘Leaf and Bean’ in Pittsburgh (USA). It is named after the shop owner, Jim Robinson, better known as ‘Island Jim’. The cigar immediately catches the eye with its unconventional appearance: a slightly rough-looking foot, the striking, multi-layered torpedo tip and the two-tone barber pole wrapper. It is produced exclusively in the 6 1/2 x 52 size and is deliberately labelled No. 2 – a nod to the famous US pencil.
Despite its playful appearance, the craftsmanship is of the highest quality: neatly rolled, with a smooth draw and an even burn. It delivers a generous smoke volume and presents itself as a cigar that stands out without losing its seriousness as a product of indulgence.
Balanced, tobacco-forward, with a sweet and spicy character
Aromatically, the Island Jim No. 2 ranges from medium-bodied to full-bodied. The blend is balanced so that the pure tobacco flavour takes centre stage without becoming overly strong. The smoke reveals notes of earth, wood and a sweet-spicy element, which lends the cigar a friendly, approachable character. It therefore appeals both to experienced aficionados who appreciate character and to connoisseurs seeking an aromatic yet not overpowering cigar.
Tasting Report
Cigar exterior: Two-tone barber pole wrapper in the typical Leaf by Oscar style, slightly rustic-looking foot, distinctive torpedo tip, very appealing
Cigar interior: A carefully balanced blend by Oscar Valladares, designed for aromatic balance rather than raw strength
Smoke: Generous, creamy smoke volume, pleasant on the palate, remains consistent throughout the entire cigar
Flavour: Earthy base, notes of cedar and wood, accompanied by sweet and spicy accents (slightly caramel-like, a hint of the spice cupboard), becoming denser and rounder in the final third
Burn: Even burn, very good draw, stable ash – cleanly crafted despite the distinctive head shape
