El Baton Double Torpedo

El Baton is one of J.C. Newman’s historic brands, created by the company’s founder, J.C. Newman, in 1914. This nickel-sized cigar was originally hand-rolled in a factory in Cleveland, Ohio, using Cuban tobacco. Although it remained popular for many years, El Baton disappeared from the market in the 1920s with the advent of machine-made cigars. In 2008, J.C.’s grandsons, Eric and Bobby Newman, relaunched the brand as the company’s first Nicaraguan cigar. El Baton cigars are grown in the most fertile regions of Nicaragua and offer a smooth, full-bodied smoke with a hint of spice. Upon its debut, the El Baton was available in just one size: the Double Torpedo. Since then, the brand has expanded to include three further sizes: a Double Toro, a Robusto and a Belicoso. Its return was met with rave reviews and acclaim from a wide range of cigar enthusiasts, including a 91-point rating from Cigar Aficionado.

Cigar interior: Good construction, medium roll.
Smoke: Creamy with a medium smoke volume.
Flavour: Earthy , fruity, grassy, woody, coffee, leather, pepper and chocolate.
Burn: Very good burn
