Project Piece of Heart – Glasses for children with poor eyesight

Like so many countries in the Caribbean, the Dominican Republic is a low-wage country. This also affects the tabaqueros, whose wages barely cover their basic needs. There is often not enough money for other needs such as education, medical care or prescription glasses for their children. If you cannot see properly, you cannot learn. In collaboration with the cb Foundation, the “Piece of Heart” project run by ADVentura Cigars provides these children with free prescription glasses, thereby making a valuable contribution to their healthy development.

Donations

For every cigar sold, 2 CHF goes towards this urgently needed project. Fifteen cigars are needed to fund one pair of glasses.

Local support

On the ground, ADVentura Cigars coordinates the project with the NGO “El Aposento”. It connects those interested with the optician in Tamboril, Santiago de los Caballeros. Appointments take place once a week. The plan is to provide glasses for around 30 children per month. The optician, who works for the project free of charge, then carries out the eye test and assesses whether the child needs glasses. The frames – the most expensive component of the glasses – are supplied from Switzerland. The cost per child, or per pair of glasses, is around CHF 30.00. By purchasing a pouch, you are therefore contributing one-third of the cost of a pair of prescription glasses. Thank you very much for your support!
