Blackbird Glitch Natural Toro

In 2022, Blackbird produced a particular blend at its factory, and everything went as usual. After a few days of cigar production, the Master Blender – affectionately known to everyone as ‘Papo El Caballo”, returned to the factory from a trip overseas to inspect a tobacco harvest. After carrying out his usual quality checks, he was taken by surprise. The blend did not quite meet his expectations. Papo immediately called a team meeting at the factory. He questioned everyone to understand what had happened.

Naturally, no one had an answer, and frustration levels were high. After a few minutes into the meeting, a new employee told Papo that he didn’t know what was wrong with the blend, as he’d done everything correctly. He’d selected the right tobacco for the blend. Then the new employee said: ‘On the day you left, we received two types of tobacco. I wrote the code names on the bales, just as I’d been instructed.’ With this information, Papo discovered the mistake. The new man had mixed up the codes.

A mistake turns into a fantastic cigar

Papo immediately rang the company’s management to explain the situation, as he considered the problem to be very serious. He wondered how the problem could be resolved. This was not the blend the company was supposed to be producing. Silence fell over the room... Three gentlemen sampled the ‘wrong blend’, their frustration clearly visible on their faces. A few centimetres in, one of them asked Papo: ‘Have you actually tried this cigar?’ He replied, ‘Yes, that’s not the blend I created.’ Then another question was put to Papo: “Didn’t you like the flavour profile of the cigar?” He replied: “I hadn’t really thought about it – why?” One of the three gentlemen said: “That’s exactly what we’ve been looking for.” “We’ve been looking for an affordable cigar that can hold its own in this market.” The frustrated group suddenly burst into laughter.

The name ‘Blackbird Glitch’

The other partner said: ‘I think I’ve got a name for this blend – we’ll call it GLITCH! A GLITCH is a mistake, a slip-up, a temporary technical glitch. In this case, this GLITCH was a wonderful mistake.’
