The Casdagli Cigars brand has evolved from a small regional brand into a cigar available almost worldwide. Casdagli Cigars has a rich history, even though the brand is still relatively young.
Casdagli Cigars was founded in 1997, but its history dates back to the 1800s, when the Casdagli family began trading in grain, tobacco and cotton, and breeding Arabian horses. The continuation of the family tradition in the trade of luxury goods is reflected in the brand logo, which features the Colossus of Rhodes – the family’s symbol of trade.
The original Casdagli cigars produced in the 1990s were made in Cuba, 100 per cent hand-rolled by master blender Carlos Valdez Mosquera – quite simply one of the finest ever. Production was very small to begin with, with only 500–1,000 cigars per month destined for the London market. Private-label cigars were produced for some of the finest establishments, including The Rib Room at the Carlton Park Tower and The Capital Hotel. Casdagli cigars also became the first choice for certain celebrities and members of the Saudi royal family.
When Carlos retired in 2013, the search for a new, trusted manufacturer led to the discovery of the newly opened Kelner Boutique Factory, run by Hendrik Kelner Jr. of the famous Kelner family of master blenders. This long-term partnership led to the launch and development of four cigar ranges from Casdagli Cigars: the Traditional Line (2013), the Club Mareva Line (2014), the Basilica Line (2015) and the Cabinet Selection (2016). The latest cigar line, Daughters of the Wind (2018), is hand-rolled in Costa Rica at the exclusive IGM boutique factory in San José.
The aim is to offer unique cigars of consistent quality that convey a sense of luxury, elegance and tradition. Today, Casdagli Cigars can be found in almost 20 countries across the Middle East, Asia, Europe and the United States.
Casdagli Cigars was previously known as Bespoke Cigars. It was rebranded in spring 2018 to celebrate its recent growth from a regional to a truly global brand, by reuniting the Casdagli family’s emblem – the Colossus of Rhodes, which already features on the brand logo – with the Casdagli family name. In this way, the Casdagli name and the values the company stands for – offering luxury, elegance and tradition – are truly restored.
