Vegas de Santiago Chaman
Costa Rica has built up an excellent reputation in recent years when it comes to the production of premium cigars. First-class tobaccos are imported and then carefully rolled by hand in one of the many factories. The most important manufacturer is located in Puriscal and is called Vegas de Santiago. Tobacco has been grown there for over 80 years. The special climate of this mountainous landscape has just the right mix of temperature, humidity and fertile, volcanic soil, which is ideal for growing tobacco.
Around three decades ago, it was an old master who perfected cigar production at Vegas de Santiago. Don Luis Santana Lamas, originally from Cuba, remained the production manager of the cigar factory until his death. Don Luis brought his lifelong experience and technical knowledge of growing, drying, maturing and storing raw tobacco, as well as the hand production of fine cigars to Costa Rica.
