DESCRIPTION
The name ‘The Dalmore’ – meaning ‘the great pasture’ – derives from the vast grassy plains of the Black Isle, which lie opposite the distillery on the picturesque shores of the Cromarty Firth, 15 miles north of Inverness. The proximity to the River Alness and the lush, verdant vegetation were ideal for growing barley. Thus, in 1839, Alexander Mathieson founded The Dalmore Distillery. In 1886, the distillery was purchased by the Mackenzie family, whose clan coat of arms features the logo of a stag’s head – a symbol that still adorns every bottle of Dalmore to this day. The coat of arms was bestowed upon the then clan chief by King Alexander some 700 years ago, after he had saved the king from an attacking stag whilst out hunting.
