Flor de Selva
DESCRIPTION
The award-winning Flor de Selva has recently launched its Toro size.
The tobacco, sourced from four valleys – Copán, Azacualpa, Talanga and Jamastrán – offers endless blending possibilities that take the smoker on a journey of flavours, including woody, earthy and nutty notes with roasted coffee, alongside countless other options. The new size is in keeping with the profile of the classic collection. It offers a creamy smoke, well-balanced with subtle sweetness and perfectly rolled. “Initially, a pleasant tobacco sweetness with a hint of coffee and cinnamon. The coffee aromas become more pronounced and a fresh note of mint emerges. Towards the end, cinnamon and nutmeg. Mild to medium-bodied.” Cigar Journal “
“For this new Flor de Selva cigar, we drew inspiration from the story of a ‘Toro’ who falls in love with the moon. We invite you to savour a moment that can be quite flirtatious as you enjoy our puro and gaze upon the enchanting light of the moon.” Maya Selva Cigars.
Maya – the woman behind Flor de Selva cigars
With a mother from France and a father from Honduras, Maya grew up in Tegucigalpa and returned to France at the age of sixteen to study. After secondary school, she trained as an engineer, attended the Ecole Internationale des Sciences du Traitement de l’Information – School of Engineering (EISTI) and completed her studies in the United States with a Master of Science. As she was not yet ready to commit to a specific career, she returned to Honduras in 1991 to explore various opportunities, particularly those related to tobacco.
MAYA rolled up her sleeves and spent over a year learning how cigars are made in Danlí, Honduras – from A to Z, she eagerly familiarised herself with every single parameter important to the production of a high-quality cigar.
Her meeting with Nestor Plasencia, a renowned tobacco grower and cigar maker, proved to be decisive. Together with him, Maya Selva defined a set of very strict specifications for the production and quality of her cigars in 1994. And in 1995, the first box bearing the FLOR DE SELVA brand went on sale in France. The new puros quickly found favour with European aficionados. As early as 1997, the Flor de Selva Robusto was described as a classic by the magazine L’Amateur de Cigare!
