When it comes to product design, spirits producers are coming up with ever more outlandish ideas. Whether it’s fire extinguishers, machine guns, skulls, shrunken heads, snow globes or bottles encrusted with expensive crystal stones – there are now the most outlandish containers for gin, rum, vodka and the like. NEFT Vodka also breaks the mould. The clear liquid is bottled in mini oil barrels. To open them, you first have to pull the hidden screw cap out of the barrel. Fittingly, the vodka comes from Siberia in Russia, where huge oil reserves were discovered in the 1970s. It was developed there by three former oilmen who, thanks to the ‘black gold’, had achieved a certain level of prosperity and set up their own company. Today, however, the vodka is produced in Austria, made from rye and Alpine spring water.
