Nikka Coffey Malt Whisky 70cl

The art of distilling was, so to speak, in the blood of Masataka Taketsuru, the founder of the Nikka Distillery: his family had been successfully producing sake since as far back as 1733. He too followed in their footsteps. In 1918, his first employer sent him to Scotland so that he could learn working techniques, distillation processes and gain experience in whisky production. When he returned to Osaka a few years later, Taketsuru built Japan’s first whisky distillery and is thus regarded as a pioneer of the Japanese whisky industry, which is now successful worldwide. Today, Nikka owns two distilleries: Miyagikyo on Honshu and Yoichi on Hokkaido. “Coffey Malt” whisky is a single malt made from 100% malted barley. However, the distillation process utilises Coffey stills, which are otherwise typically used only for the production of grain whiskies.

Tasting Notes
Colour: Amber.
Aroma: Fruity and spicy with citrus notes, pear, balsamic vinegar and vanilla
Taste: Sweet and fruity with clementines and oranges, accompanied by flavours of coffee, chocolate and a hint of rum. A long finish with spicy and sweet nuances.
