Arturo Fuente The Lost City – the story

The story behind the Arturo Fuente Opus X The Lost City cigar is so extraordinary that it could have come straight out of a Hollywood screenplay. In fact, the idea originated during the production of *The Lost City*, a film project by Andy García that took 16 years to complete. The film tells the story of a Cuban family torn apart during the Castro revolution. Garcia, who plays the lead character Fico Fellove, received support from the legendary cigar maker Carlito Fuente to depict an authentic Cuban tobacco farm in the film.

During filming, Garcia changed his original plan to shoot the scene in an office after seeing the tobacco fields at the Chateau de la Fuente. He persuaded Fuente to plant tobacco after the harvest so that they would have metre-high plants as a backdrop by the summer. This decision not only resulted in a stunning film scene, but also led to the creation of one of the rarest cigars in the world.

After five years of careful ageing, the tobacco grown in summer proved to be outstanding: a leaf that possessed all the celebrated complexity of the original Arturo Fuente Opus X wrapper, yet with a character all of its own.
