Ashton Smooth Sailing 50g Tin

Ashton Smooth Sailing 50g Tin is a wonderfully uncomplicated, Danish-style aromatic pipe tobacco that lives up to its name: soft, smooth and ‘easy-going’. The blend is aimed at connoisseurs seeking a pleasantly sweet aroma without the tobacco feeling heavy or overpowering. As soon as you open the tin, pleasant notes of maple, coconut and dark chocolate waft up to the nose – like a dessert-like scent with a tropical twist. When smoked, Smooth Sailing remains mild to medium-mild, gentle on the palate and very suitable for everyday use: perfect for after work, as a relaxed ‘aromatic treat’ in between, or as a pleasant accompaniment to coffee and a light digestif.

A gentle interplay of flavours on a creamy tobacco base

The base consists of a high proportion of Black Cavendish, which provides velvety richness and a creamy smoke. This is complemented by nutty Burley, which gives the blend structure and depth, as well as sweet, light Golden/Bright Virginias, which bring a natural underlying sweetness and freshness. The flavour profile is often described as a combination of maple, coconut and chocolate – a harmonious, slightly exotic sweetness that feels soft and rounded on the palate. Some retailers and tasters also mention hints of honey or vanilla; in practice, this fits well into the overall picture, as the blend generally comes across as ‘creamy sweet’ without becoming cloying. The smoke is pleasantly cool and mild, with a pleasant, sweet room note.
