Hermann Upmann: from banker to cigar maker

Hermann Upmann was a German banker who loved Cuban cigars so much that he moved to Havana in 1844, where he went on to work as both a banker and a cigar manufacturer. His bank had to close shortly after 1920, but his cigars live on as an excellent example of a Habano ranging from mild to medium in strength. The key to Upmann’s success was his commitment to delivering nothing but first-class quality. H. Upmann Habanos were renowned for being packaged in elegant boxes made from Spanish cedar, accompanied by a guarantee and Hermann Upmann’s signature – production took place, and continues to take place, in Havana.
