Marzadro Anfora Grappa Trentina 70cl

The origins of the Marzadro brand read like a good black-and-white film from the post-war era. Sabina Marzadro, who had served a wealthy Roman for 12 years, harboured a dream upon her return of escaping poverty and producing her own grappa. After building her very first still with the help of a friend, the first lorries loaded with pomace arrived in 1949. Before long, everyone was talking about the grappa. When a market crisis loomed in the 1980s, the company switched to liqueurs: this led to the creation of the first grappa-based liqueur made with blueberries from Trentino. Marzadro’s range currently comprises over 40 varieties of grappa and nearly 30 liqueurs.
The Anfora variety consists of a blend of grape pomace from Trentino, comprising: 80% Teroldego, Marzemino and Merlot, and 20% Chardonnay, Müller Thurgau and Muscat. After distillation, the cuvée is not left to rest in wooden casks, but in amphorae made of clay and loam – such vessels were already used in antiquity for storing liquids and foodstuffs and ensure a higher oxygen supply than casks. As a result, the grappa ages relatively quickly without, however, taking on the classic woody notes.
