Punch is one of the oldest Habanos brands. Don Manuel Lopez of Juan Valle & Co. founded this brand in the mid-19th century with an eye on the lucrative British market, where the satirical magazine of the same name – which had been published since 1841 – was particularly in vogue at the time. A contented Mr Punch, the clown who represented the magazine, can still be seen on every box of the brand, cigar in hand. He is surrounded by illustrations depicting cigar production in the 19th century. The production method has remained virtually unchanged for a century and a half.
In 1931, Punch moved to the La Corona factory, where Hoyo de Monterrey cigars were also produced. To this day, both brands are still manufactured at the La Corona factory.
Punch’s distinctive medium-bodied cigars, made from a blend of filler and wrapper leaves from the Vuelta Abajo tobacco-growing region, are available in a wide range of different sizes. All sizes are ‘totalmente a mano, tripa larga’ – long-fillers made entirely by hand.
