Ron Zacapa Solera (Centenario) 23-year-old rum 70cl

The 23-year-old Centenario is now being marketed under a new name and is now called ‘Solera’. It is undisputedly the flagship product of the Zacapa house and is produced from freshly pressed sugar cane juice from which the water is removed through a gentle heating process. The result is concentrated sugar with a viscous consistency, known as ‘virgin cane honey’. It is stored and matured in Quetzaltengo, a town on the Guatemalan highlands. The constant climate and the continuous monitoring of noise levels, humidity and lighting conditions make it possible, amongst other things, to produce such a elegant and refined rum. After ageing, the various selected casks are transferred to a so-called ‘piper’ – a large wooden cask with a capacity of 15,000 litres – reduced to drinking strength of 40 per cent and finally bottled. The hand-woven banderole made from the leaves of the royal palm adorns the bottle of this fine rum.

Colour: Dark copper with olive hues.
Nose: Fruity aromas, slightly sweet
Palate: Subtle hints of toffee and banana harmonise with caramelised fruit and oak.
