Diplomatico Distillery Collection No. 1 Batch Kettle 70cl

The tradition of growing sugar cane in Venezuela dates back to the 15th century. This expertise, combined with favourable conditions such as climate and soil, gives the rum its distinctive characteristics and unique flavours. Diplomatico Ron is produced by Destilerias Unidas, a Venezuelan conglomerate comprising various distillers. The company relies predominantly on copper stills manufactured in England. For the first two instalments of the Diplomatico Distillery Collection special edition, the aim was to highlight the flavour profiles of two other stills, presenting blended rums from a Canadian batch kettle filled with fermented sugar cane juice (No. 1) and from a French Barbet copper column still (No. 2), which was fuelled by molasses. Both stills were installed at the La Miel hacienda in 1959 and have been used to produce some of the Diplomaticos ever since (the batch kettle had previously been used for the production of American whisky). The resulting distillate is then matured in oak casks before being bottled.
