Diplomatico Distillery Collection No. 3 Pot Still Rum 70cl

The DUSA distillery is the home of Ron Diplomático and is situated amidst sugar cane fields at the foot of the Venezuelan Andes. Here, near the town of Barquisimeto in the north-west of the country, the mighty mountain range – characterised by volcanoes and snow-capped peaks – begins to take shape, albeit still rather inconspicuously. The forefather of Ron Diplomático, Don Juancho, is featured on every bottle with his distinguished likeness. Strictly speaking, he had absolutely nothing to do with the brand’s creation – yet the stories about his extraordinary collection of spirits, which he continually expanded during his travels to the Caribbean, served as inspiration for the distillery’s owners. Although the rum has been produced since 1959, the international spirits market has only been familiar with the brand since 2002. Depending on the desired complexity of the rum, it is distilled in pot stills, column stills or batch kettles, or blended from various distillates. The aim of the Distillery Collection rums is to showcase these different styles in more detail.

Matured for several years

The copper pot stills have been in use since the distillery first opened. The N°3 Pot Still Rum is made from sugar cane honey and distilled using a batch process, which is normally employed for Scotch whisky. This is followed by several years of ageing in small casks made from American white oak.
