The Montecristo brand’s sophisticated reputation precedes it throughout the world. No other brand is better known, and none is so synonymous with a premium Habano. It sets the standard for all other Habanos. Its quality, flavour and aroma are outstanding and exceptionally intense.
The evocative name alone conjures up memories for every aficionado of their childhood and their first encounter with Alexandre Dumas’s novel *The Count of Monte Cristo*. The shared name is no coincidence, but stems from the fact that the novel was one of the favourite reads of the storytellers for the torcedores at the H. Upmann factory, where it was originally hand-rolled. In the search for a fitting name for these top-of-the-range Habanos, a consensus was therefore quickly reached.
Since its launch in the 1930s, the Montecristo has been a benchmark that no other Habano can surpass. At least for lovers of medium-strength blends. Nowadays, the range – which was originally limited to a selection numbered from No. 1 to No. 5 – encompasses everything a cigar smoker could desire – from the majestic Montecristo A to the petite Joyita. They all share the distinctive Montecristo flavour.
