Tanqueray Flor de Sevilla Gin 70cl

The globally marketed Tanqueray brand belongs to the spirits group Diageo and was founded in 1830 by a certain Charles Tanqueray, who had a distillery built in the Bloomsbury district of London. His gin soon became popular in the British colonies, such as Jamaica and the United States, where it was particularly favoured as an ingredient in the Dry Martini cocktail. Incidentally, rumour has it that the bottle design is modelled on a three-piece cocktail shaker. After the distillery was razed to the ground during air raids in 1941 (apart from a still that is still in use today), production moved out of London.
Although Flor de Sevilla Gin bears the unmistakable red Tanqueray seal on its specially shaped bottle, its design – just like its contents – is entirely centred on Seville oranges and orange blossom. It is said that Mr Tanqueray wrote down a recipe based on Spanish citrus fruits as early as the 1860s, but it is only now that commercial production of this citrus-forward gin has begun.
