The legendary cigar connoisseur Avo Uvezian was born in Beirut in 1926 and inherited his passion for music – particularly classical and jazz – from his parents. By his late teens, he was already enjoying great success in the Middle East with his jazz trio, the ‘Lebanon Boys’, and served as the personal pianist to the Shah of Persia. Later, his success took him to New York, where he also discovered his passion for fine cigars. In the early 1980s, he settled in Puerto Rico and opened a restaurant where he gave his guests cigars from his own production free of charge. The first step had now been taken: he had gone from being a cigar connoisseur to a cigar manufacturer. In his search for the finest tobaccos, his path led him to the Dominican Republic, where, together with Hendrik Kelner, he developed the tobacco blends for the famous AVO cigars.
