Origins and History
The Trinidad cigar brand takes its name from the picturesque town of La Santísima Trinidad (The Holy Trinity), a UNESCO World Heritage Site on Cuba’s southern coast. Founded in the 16th century, the name reflects both its historical and cultural richness. Trinidad was launched in 1969 and was originally an exclusive gift for foreign diplomats, much like the well-known Cohiba brand.
The development of Trinidad cigars
Initially, Trinidad offered only one size: the Fundadores. In 2003, the range was expanded to include three further sizes: Reyes, Coloniales and, later in 2015, the Vigía, which, with its generous ring gauge, appeals to modern smoking habits. This expansion was accompanied by a redesign of the packaging and cigar bands to give the brand a contemporary look.
Exclusive Production
For a long time, Trinidad cigars were produced at the renowned El Laguito factory, the home of Cohiba. The special tobacco blends characteristic of Trinidad, which use filler and wrapper leaves from the highly prized Vuelta Abajo tobacco-growing region, elevate this brand to the very top tier of Cuban cigar production.
Production in Pinar del Río
Today, Trinidad is produced in Pinar del Río, the most important tobacco-growing town in the Vuelta Abajo region. This relocation underlines Trinidad’s significance as a premium brand in the world of Cuban cigars.
