Davidoff's brand history is rich in extraordinary innovations and iconic achievements in the world of cigars. These innovations, including the famous Aniversario No. 1, were ground-breaking in their time and caused a sensation with their excellent craftsmanship and uniqueness.

Davidoff concludes the successful series "Cigar history repeats" with a grand finale that will also go down in the brand's history : The Grand Cru Diademas Finas Limited Edition Collection, unlike the previous three releases, delights with a new special format and a unique blend. The Diademas Finas, which has never appeared in the Grand Cru lineup before, has an even stronger connection to the world of wine. For the first time, Davidoff has combined the notes of a Rive Droite Bordeaux, namely citrus fruit, dark cherries and walnut, in one cigar. This was achieved through the three main tobaccos in the filler - because a Bordeaux is also blended from at least three different main grape varieties. In addition, Davidoff had one of the filler tobaccos matured in a Premier Grand Cru Classé red wine barrel from Bordeaux - a world first. The Dominican San Vicente Seco has a finer leaf, which absorbs the flavours of the red wine barrel better and thus helps the cigar to perfectly reflect the fruity character of the wine . 

The Figurado emphasises the remarkable craftsmanship of the rollers and enables aficionados to discover this perfect blend bit by bit.

The story

in 1946, Zino Davidoff created a line of cigars that were to be produced like classic Bordeaux wines. The blend was to be based on the soil and climate in which the tobacco grew - just like the French "terroirs". And just as Bordeaux wines are blended with three different main grape varieties, these cigars contained three different filler tobaccos. Davidoff's Grand Cru cigars were born. Just like the rich and ripe grapes of Bordeaux, the fruits of another innovation have now been harvested and transformed into a truly remarkable cigar - one that deserves the title Grand Cru even more. This is because the Davidoff Grand Cru Diademas Finas Limited Edition Collection contains tobacco that has been matured in Premier Grand Cru Classé red wine casks . In keeping with Zino Davidoff's pioneering and innovative blends, this is the first time that tobacco refined in Bordeaux red wine casks has been used. The special Dominican San Vicente Seco is allowed to age to perfection for a full six months. The result is the same notes that characterise the Bordeaux wines : dark cherries, walnuts and citrus fruits. The combination caresses the palate like the wine swirled in the glass. The distinctive figurado format gives this limited edition an additional speciality, as it draws the attention of the palate to the diversity of the blend. The perfect accompaniment to a bottle of wine from France's most famous wine region. Santé.

Cask ageing

The barrel: The tobacco leaves are pressed firmly into a Premier Grand Cru Classé red wine barrel . When the temperature in the closed barrel rises, the fermentation process begins. The temperature rise is regularly controlled so that the tobacco does not overheat. 

Maturation: The Dominican San Vicente Seco inlay tobacco is allowed to mature in the cask for a total of six months. During this time, it is turned over every fortnight in a time-consuming process. During this time, the tobacco absorbs the wine flavours of the wooden barrel. This is a natural process in which no wine is applied directly to the tobacco leaves. 

The result: the ageing in barrels gives the flavours complexity and depth. The use of a Dominican San Vicente Seco tobacco in particular noticeably refines the taste. Seco leaves are finer and can therefore absorb more of the wine flavour.

Pairing for wine connoisseurs

The Grand Cru Diademas Finas, with its typical flavours of citrus fruit, cherry and walnut, was created even closer to the world of wine. As one of the filler tobaccos was allowed to mature in a red wine barrel, the cigar goes perfectly with a red wine from Bordeaux, especially from the Rive Droite. The wines from Saint-Émilion are known for their fruity character and are therefore the ideal companions for the Grand Cru Diademas Finas Limited Edition Collection.
