Davidoff
DESCRIPTION
This full-bodied cigar, with its intense sweet and creamy flavours, offers a sophisticated taste experience that is a new addition to the Davidoff range. Forty per cent of the Maduro’s sweet and creamy flavours are attributable solely to the wrapper, which has been fermented for an impressive 16 months. Compared to the leaves used in other parts of the cigar, the fermentation of the Maduro wrapper takes twice as long, as the perfect leaf for a Maduro cigar comes from the upper part of the plant, where it receives the most sunlight and is therefore quite thick.
The sweetness of dark chocolate in the first third and honey in the second third are the main features of this flavour-rich experience. The addition of roasted nuts in the final third rounds off this typical Maduro flavour experience.
Davidoff Maduro is available in three popular sizes: the larger Toro and Robusto, and the smaller Short Corona for shorter moments of indulgence. Each size offers a slightly different flavour journey and provides aficionados with the perfect choice for every occasion.
All cigars feature a distinctive black second band with gold-coloured elements and are presented in an elegant 20-count wooden box with a loose lid. The box’s satin finish emphasises the super-premium positioning of this beautiful limited release.
Facts about the Davidoff Maduro
Time makes all the difference. Four facts about the Davidoff Maduro.
Corte #7
The name speaks for itself: Maduro (Spanish for ‘ripe’, cigar glossary: ‘dark colour’) is a wrapper with a thick texture and a dark chocolate colour.
The new Davidoff Maduro is wrapped in a dark Ecuadorian wrapper leaf. It is harvested from Corte #7, the highest leaf grade used by Davidoff.
Only two leaves per plant grow at this leaf grade and can become Maduro wrapper leaves. The leaf is thick and oily and therefore requires more moisture and extremely precise and high temperatures to allow the leaf to reach its full potential in terms of silkiness and unique flavour
Sunlight
As the leaf comes from the upper part of the tobacco plant, it receives the most direct sunlight compared to the lower leaves . Due to increased photosynthesis, the leaves therefore contain a significantly high proportion of sugar.
This accumulated sugar results in a thicker texture and a uniform size. Both of these characteristics make these leaves ideal for Maduro wrappers.
16 months
Compared to other leaves, the fermentation period for a Maduro wrapper is twice as long. 16 months in the fermentation pile are required to bring out the majority of the sweet notes characteristic of a Maduro.
This labour-intensive process also results in the darker colour of the leaf. Davidoff refrains from using external heat sources and works exclusively with the heat generated naturally within the stack. The piles are turned a total of 12 times (it takes 32 hours to turn an entire Davidoff fermentation pile once ). The tobacco is then left to rest for two years in bales to develop even more flavour.
Flavour
In Davidoff Maduro, you can taste the time that has gone into its production.
40 per cent of the sweet and creamy flavour experience comes from the Maduro wrapper, which is why Davidoff devotes so much time and dedication to it.
The result is a cigar that is sweeter and more refined, and above all, has more aroma. When enjoying the cigar, the sweetness of dark chocolate and honey plays a key role.
For the grand finale, roasted nuts take centre stage.
A true Maduro is all about time, because time creates flavour.
Pairings
Sweet and creamy notes of ice wine
In this pairing, both the sweetness of the cigar and that of the ice wine take centre stage. The typical notes of honey and dried fruit found in a sweet wine are perfectly complemented by the notes of honey, dark chocolate and roasted nuts in the Davidoff Maduro.
Did you know?
Just like Davidoff cigars, this premium ice wine is produced using traditional methods and with great attention to detail. Due to its labour-intensive production process and limited availability, it is a highly sought-after dessert wine.
Sweet and creamy flavours complemented by Lapsang Souchong tea
This black tea, dry-smoked over a pinewood fire, delights with notes of paprika, dried longan and wood smoke. These notes form a pleasant contrast to the cigar’s aromas of dark chocolate, honey and roasted nuts. This diverse pairing is an entertaining symphony for the senses. Tip: Add a little milk to the tea to make it even creamier.
Did you know?
Lapsang Souchong is also used in black tea blends, to achieve a fuller flavour and a stronger aroma. It can, for example, be blended with an Earl Grey tea.
