There are two different cigar ranges under the name Gilbert De Montsalvat. Both were created by the Swiss-American Raymondo Bernasconi. Ray successfully runs a cigar shop in Basel called House of Smoke. Originally, the cigars were intended solely for him and his shop, but after a while it became apparent that they had become so successful in such a short space of time that they are now distributed to various countries via the importer Kohlhase & Kopp in Rellingen.

Monsieur Montsalvat is therefore not a real person; he is a fictional character created by Ray, who also lent his likeness for the cigar boxes. The presentation of the cigars in their unvarnished, light-coloured solid wood boxes of ten is definitely eye-catching, and the charming story behind them certainly guarantees high brand recognition.

Full-bodied

The wrapper comes from Ecuador and the binder from the Dominican Republic. The tobaccos in the filler leaves come entirely from the Condega region in Nicaragua.

When smoked, the cigar is full-bodied and spicy, with flavours ranging from pepper and coffee to subtle hints of almond and a mild sweetness. It is superbly crafted and has an intense flavour profile. The relatively small pack sizes practically encourage you to buy a whole box.
