Nikka Rare Old Super Whisky 70cl

Masataka Taketsuru, the founder of the Nikka distillery, was practically born into the craft of distilling: His family had been successfully producing sake since 1733. He also followed this path. His first employer sent him to Scotland in 1918 so that he could learn working techniques, distillation processes and experience in whisky production. When he returned to Osaka a few years later, Taketsuru built Japan's first whisky distillery and is thus regarded as a pioneer of the now globally successful Japanese whisky industry. Today, Nikka owns two distilleries: Miyagikyo on Honshu and Yoichi on Hokkaido. The "Coffey Malt" whisky is a single malt made from 100% malted barley. However, the distillation process uses coffey stills, which are usually only used for the production of grain whiskies. Tasting

Notes

The nose has spicy aromas of dried herbs, nuts and citrus fruits. The palate is sweet with honey and nougat, plus notes of lemongrass, oak and a hint of redcurrant. The finish is characterised by oak, ginger and cloves.
