DESCRIPTION
The great success of the classic version prompted the Oliva family to produce a dark series with a Mexican San Andres Maduro wrapper. The name goes back to Melanio Oliva, the grandfather of Gilberto Oliva, who is now regarded as the family patriarch. He was already growing tobacco in Cuba in 1886, and his son Hipolito followed him for several decades.
The father of the current generation of Olivas, Gilberto Senior, who is still the grey eminence at tobacco fairs in the USA today, then had the difficult task of finding similarly suitable growing conditions after the exodus from Cuba. After several years of searching in Panama, the Philippines, Honduras and Mexico, among other places, he finally found perfectly suitable soils in Nicaragua that met his requirements.
Earthy tones and a high level of complexity spoil the aficionado towards the end of the cigars and make you want more.
