For thousands of years, tobacco has served as a mediator between the gods and humankind. Originally, smoking was a privilege reserved for shamans – known as ‘Sukia’ – from Cabo Camarón in Honduras to the Río Grande in Nicaragua. These ‘healers’ used tobacco leaves for medicinal purposes and in initiation rites amongst the indigenous peoples across large parts of the Americas. In their rituals, they communicated with the gods by snuffing or chewing tobacco. They used tobacco to cure illnesses.

A tribute to all indigenous peoples

The Umnum brand is entirely dedicated to this theme and pays homage to all indigenous peoples who have used tobacco as the cornerstone of fraternal unity within their communities, for whom respect for nature and the shared use of their resources are fundamental and indispensable principles. For this reason, the Umnum ring features the image of the spirit with which the Sukias have forged a bond, set against a black background representing the world of dreams. The colour gold symbolises fire and ash.
