To mark Cohiba’s 55th anniversary – known in Spanish as the ‘55 Aniversario’ – Habanos S.A. has unveiled several new formats for this premier Habanos brand. One of these is the COHIBA 55 ANIVERSARIO from the EDICIÓN LIMITADA 2021. With an impressive ring gauge of 57, this 150 mm long format is now treating Habanos enthusiasts to complex and full-bodied flavours for a limited time only.
Victoria – Victory
The production name of the 55 Aniversario is ‘Victoria’, which means ‘victory’ in English, and it was developed specifically for this limited edition. Just like the legendary ‘Lancero’ format from the Cohiba Línea Clásica or the three formats in the super-premium Behike range, it features the characteristic small braid at the mouthpiece. The Cohiba Talismán, the hugely successful format from the 2017 Edición Limitada, also had it.
The tobacco blend is characterised by its complexity and aroma; however, as is customary for Edición Limitada cigars, it consists exclusively of tobaccos aged for at least two years.

With its majestic size, the Cohiba 55 Aniversario offers connoisseurs the ultimate cigar experience for very special moments. It is sold in lacquered boxes of 10. For the first time, Habanos S.A. has also included a third band at the foot of this cigar, bearing a special logo to mark Cohiba’s 55th anniversary. For the production of the Ediciones Limitadas, only tobacco aged for at least two years is used for the filler, binder and wrapper, sourced from the finest Vegas Finas de Primera in the world-famous Vuelta Abajo region. Only the very best Habanos torcedores with extensive experience are selected to roll these limited-edition cigars.

Handwerklich top, geschmacklich nicht mein Fall
Die Cohiba 55 Aniversario Edición Limitada 2021 überzeugt zunächst mit einer Verarbeitung auf höchstem Niveau. Meiner Meinung nach erfordert die Zigarre einen zu hohen Zugwiderstand. Man muss deutlich kräftiger ziehen, als ich es bevorzuge, was das Raucherlebnis spürbar beeinträchtigt. Das Rauchvolumen ist für mich zu niedrig und doch der Abbrand bleibt gleichmäßig, sodass die Zigarre handwerklich zufriedenstellend sein kann.
Geschmacklich startet sie mit einer deutlich wahrnehmbaren Pfeffrigkeit und Würze, die sich bis etwa zur Mitte des zweiten Drittels hält. Begleitet wird diese von einer feinen Honigsüße, die dem Aromaprofil etwas Eleganz verleiht. Für viele Aficionados dürfte diese Kombination durchaus reizvoll sein. Da ich jedoch kein großer Fan pfeffriger Zigarren bin, trifft sie meinen persönlichen Geschmack nur bedingt. Pfeffrige Aromen entwickeln für mich mit der Zeit häufig eine leicht petrochemische und scharfe Note, wodurch das Raucherlebnis an Genuss verliert.
Nach dem zweiten Drittel wird die Zigarre etwas harmonischer und ausgewogener. Die Pfeffrigkeit tritt etwas in den Hintergrund, sodass die cremigen und holzigen Noten besser zur Geltung kommen. Im letzten Drittel glaube ich etwas Nussaromen wahrzunehmen. Mir fehlte insgesamt eine spannendere Aromenentwicklung, die mich bis zum Ende wirklich fesseln konnte.
Mein größter Kritikpunkt ist jedoch das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis. So hochwertig die Verarbeitung auch ist und so angenehm sich die Zigarre rauchen lässt - geschmacklich bietet sie mir nicht das außergewöhnliche Erlebnis, das ich bei diesem Preis erwarten würde. Es gibt in dieser Preisklasse und sogar deutlich darunter Zigarren, die meinen persönlichen Geschmack wesentlich besser treffen und aromatisch mehr Abwechslung bieten.
Pairing: Ich würde einen weichen, leicht süßlichen Rum mit Honig- und Vanillenoten wählen. Dieser ergänzt die Honignoten der Zigarre, ohne die feinen Aromen zu überdecken.
