DESCRIPTION
To mark Cohiba's 55th anniversary, known as the "55 Aniversario" in Spanish, Habanos s.a. presented several new formats from the top Habanos brand. One of these is the COHIBA 55 ANIVERSARIO of the EDICIÓN LIMITADA 2021. With an impressive ring gauge of 57, the 150 mm long format will now spoil Habanos lovers with complex and full-bodied flavours for a short time.
Victoria - the victory
The production name of the 55 Aniversario is "Victoria", which means "victory" in German, and it was specially developed for this limited edition. Just like the legendary "Lancero" format of the Cohiba Línea Clásica or the three formats of the super-premium Behike line, it has the characteristic pigtail on the mouthpiece. The Cohiba Talismán, the extremely successful format of the Edición Limitada 2017, also had it.
The tobacco blend is characterised by a complex and aromatic blend but, as is usual for Edición Limitada cigars, consists exclusively of tobaccos aged for at least two years.

With its majestic format, the Cohiba 55 Aniversario offers connoisseurs maximum cigar enjoyment for very special moments. It is sold in lacquered boxes of 10 cigars. For the first time, Habanos s.a. is also using a third ring on the foot of the cigar, which bears a special logo to mark Cohiba's 55th anniversary. For the production of the Ediciónes Limitadas, only tobaccos aged for at least two years are used for the filler, binder and wrapper, which come from the best Vegas Finas de Primera from the world-famous Vuelta Abajo region. Only very special Habanos torcedores with extensive experience are selected to roll these limited edition cigars.

The Cohiba 55 Aniversario Edición Limitada 2021 caught the world's attention not just because it is a Cohiba and not because it celebrates the brand's 55th anniversary. It attracted attention because of its exorbitant price tag of over 300 dollars per cigar. The Cohiba came onto the market a little late and was only launched in 2022, first in Lebanon and Cyprus, then later in Havana with lavish launch parties. It wasn't all hype though, as this cigar proved to be the most flavourful Cohiba we smoked that year. Excellent craftsmanship, but not to my taste
The Cohiba 55 Aniversario Edición Limitada 2021 initially impresses with its top-class craftsmanship. In my opinion, however, the cigar requires too much draw resistance. You have to draw much harder than I prefer, which noticeably detracts from the smoking experience. The smoke volume is too low for my liking, yet the burn remains even, so the cigar can be considered satisfactory in terms of craftsmanship.
In terms of flavour, it starts with a distinctly perceptible peppery and spicy note that lasts until around the middle of the second third. This is accompanied by a subtle honeyed sweetness, which lends the flavour profile a touch of elegance. For many aficionados, this combination is likely to be quite appealing. However, as I am not a great fan of peppery cigars, it only partially suits my personal taste. For me, peppery flavours often develop a slightly petrochemical and sharp note over time, which detracts from the enjoyment of the smoking experience.
After the second third, the cigar becomes somewhat more harmonious and balanced. The peppery notes recede slightly into the background, allowing the creamy and woody notes to come to the fore. In the final third, I think I detect some nutty flavours. Overall, I found myself missing a more exciting development of flavours that could really captivate me right through to the end.
My biggest criticism, however, is the value for money. However high-quality the craftsmanship may be, and however pleasant the cigar is to smoke, in terms of flavour it doesn’t offer me the exceptional experience I would expect at this price. There are cigars in this price range – and even well below it – that suit my personal taste much better and offer greater aromatic variety.
Pairing: I would choose a smooth, slightly sweet rum with notes of honey and vanilla. This complements the cigar’s honey notes without overpowering its delicate flavours.
