Cuaba – a highly flammable shrub

Cuaba is – just like Cohiba – a loanword from the language of the Taíno Indians, the indigenous people of Cuba, which was already known to Columbus’s men. It was the name given to a highly flammable shrub which the indigenous people used to light their cohibas (an indigenous word for tobacco rolls). All sizes feature filler and binder leaves from the Vuelta Abajo tobacco-growing region and are ‘totalmente a mano, tripa larga’ – long-filler cigars made entirely by hand.
