Grand Mezcal La Escondida Tequila 70cl

Mezcal is increasingly stepping out of the shadow of the overpowering agave spirit tequila, which is actually a subspecies of mezcal. To emphasise this once again: Tequila is made exclusively from the blue agave, whereas mezcal can in principle be made from any type of agave (around 50 different types are currently processed). Tequila may only be produced in certain authorised regions in five Mexican states (the majority comes from Jalisco), while most mezcals come from the state of Oaxaca, but may also be produced in other regions.
The name of this mezcal, La Escondida ("the hidden woman"), comes from a legend dating back to 1543, when Spaniards took a local princess captive. According to the story, she managed to escape but was never found again. Nevertheless, local fishermen claim to have seen the princess as a mermaid in the Pacific Ocean. The Grand Mezcal is made from 100% espadin agave, which is native to Oaxaca. This multi-faceted spirit has an earthy and smoky nose, a smooth and balanced flavour and a pleasantly strong finish.
