La Gloria Cubana – The Glory of Cuba

La Gloria Cubana – which translates as ‘The Glory of Cuba’ – is the truly spectacular-sounding name of a Habanos brand that is, however, less well known today. That was not always the case, though. The history of the brand, founded in 1885, is closely linked to that of the far more famous Partagás brand, which originates from the same factory.

A luxury brand from the very beginning

La Gloria was a luxury brand from the very start, as is evident from the lithographs that still exist today, which were elaborately finished with gold leaf. Even today, the Habanos standard range features a unique format from ‘La Gloria Cubana’ – the elegant and slender ‘No. 4’ from the legendary ‘Medaille d’Or’ series. Discerning Habanos connoisseurs have therefore always kept a close eye on this brand, to which some of the most interesting regional editions and limited-edition products have been dedicated.

Exclusive editions and limited-edition products

As early as 2010, the La Gloria Cubana Inmensos in the Sublime format (164 mm x ring gauge 54) were launched exclusively for the shops of the global franchise network ‘La Casa del Habano’. The tobacco blend of this large-calibre cigar was magnificent, and many connoisseurs were delighted by this exceptionally full-bodied Habano. Today, it ranks among the most sought-after rarities amongst Habano-loving collectors.

The return of the La Gloria Cubana Gloria

Habanos S.A. is now reintroducing a La Gloria Cubana Gloria to the market. However, it features a newly developed Parejo format called ‘Flechas’ (Vitola de Galera), with a large ring gauge of 49 and a length of 156 mm. The retail name (Vitola de Salida) is also ‘Glorias’. Incidentally, both names, ‘Flechas’ and ‘Glorias’, referred to historic formats of the brand in the 1970s.

Exclusive packaging and distribution

The new ‘Glorias’ are presented in exquisitely crafted boxes, lacquered in white and blue, which are sold exclusively through the shops of the La Casa del Habano franchise network. A second ring bearing the Casa logo indicates this. For protection, the boxes are encased in a blue velvet sleeve and an outer cardboard wrapper. Each box contains 20 of these wonderful cigars.

Exquisite tobaccos and handcrafted quality

These entirely hand-rolled long-fillers are made from a selection of the finest tobaccos from the Pinar del Río growing region. They are crafted by particularly experienced experts amongst the rollers at the Partagás factory. The La Gloria Cubana Glorias are now set to become a permanent addition to the exclusive range at La Casas del Habano.

Tasting notes

Cigar exterior: Slightly rough wrapper.
Cigar construction: Medium roll, good workmanship.
Smoke: Creamy and sweet notes are well balanced, medium smoke volume.
Flavour: Woody with earthy notes, leather, fruit and nut.
Burn: Good burn
