DESCRIPTION

The Star Hill Distillery was founded in 1889 and is still family-owned, now in its fifth generation. Unlike most other distilleries in Kentucky, Maker’s Mark uses grain rather than rye. This is not ground as is customary, but crushed in a special rye mill. “Maker’s Mark Bourbon Whisky” is made from a mash consisting of around 70 per cent maize. The remaining 30 per cent is malted barley and wheat. After double distillation, it is aged for four to seven years in charred white oak casks.
