The role of the vegueros
Vegueros, the Spanish word for tobacco farmers, are the tireless workers behind every tobacco leaf. Their demanding work involves inspecting and tending to every single plant on the plantations – often more than 150 times during a growing season. The Vegueros brand honours these traditional craftsmen, whose expertise and dedication have been passed down from generation to generation in the Pinar del Río region.
Rebranding and Innovation
Since its launch in 1996, the Vegueros brand underwent a transformation in 2014, introducing three new formats, a fresh design and innovative packaging. These changes reflect the brand’s evolution and adaptability in appealing to the modern aficionado.
New Blends and Classic Craftsmanship
Vegueros’ new cigar blends are more harmonious and lighter compared to the original formats and are classified by Habanos as medium-bodied to full-bodied. Production takes place at the ‘Francisco Donatién’ factory, located in the heart of Cuba’s tobacco centre, Pinar del Río. This historic building, which has stood since 1868 and has been used as a cigar factory since 1961, is also the production site for all formats of the Trinidad brand.
Craftsmanship
Every size of Vegueros cigar is ‘totalmente a mano, tripa larga’ – long-fillers made entirely by hand. This artisanal production guarantees consistent quality and an authentic smoking experience that reflects the true essence of Cuban cigar culture.
