Hoyo de Monterrey
The Hoyo de Monterrey brand was founded by one of the "greats" of Cuban tobacco history, José Gener, a Spanish immigrant. The name originally comes from the location of the plantation he bought in the middle of the Vuelta Abajo, which lies in a depression on the San Juan y Martinez river with the town of the same name. Hoyo literally means "depression" or "valley". A cigar of the same name is produced in Honduras, but it has nothing to do with the Cuban brand. Before Gener's death around 1900, Hoyo de Monterrey produced over 50 million cigars a year!
The cigars made by the manufacturer are extremely aromatic and complex, but rather light and mild. This makes them perfect for beginners!
