Diplomáticos is a relatively young brand dating from the 1960s. Originally, these cigars were reportedly intended specifically for sale in France. Many details are reminiscent of the brand Montecristo. Take, for example, the naming of the sizes. Instead of names, the Diplomáticos use the same numerical codes to designate the sizes as ‘ Montecristo ’. The blend is slightly lighter than that of ‘ Montecristo ’. Currently, only the Pirámide size of this brand is still produced in Cuba: the ‘Diplomaticos No. 2’.
These cigars are rolled using the traditional ‘totalmente a mano, tripa larga’ method – entirely hand-rolled long-fillers – with filler and wrapper leaves from the Vuelta Abajo tobacco-growing region.
