Bohemian No. 10 The Martinez 25.5% 700ml

The "father of the Martini" was probably created at the end of the 19th century and represents a link between classic sweet drinks such as the Manhattan and more bitter drinks such as the Martini. Although there are no exact clues as to its origins, avowed Martinez fans attribute the creation to bartender Julio Richelieu.

We agree and thank Julio for serving a cocktail made from Old Tom gin, Italian vermouth, Maraschino cherry liqueur and bitters to a miner on his way to Martinez in California around 1874. From the 1890s onwards, dry drinks were favoured. The sweetened Old Tom Gin that was common at the time was therefore replaced by a London Dry Gin. MARTINEZ is still enjoyed in this way today: served in a cool cocktail glass and with the addition of an orange zest.

Tasting notes

Colour: Brilliant rusty brown.
Aroma: Fusion of cherry and cola, with a slight hint of sloe, juniper and spices, notes of potpourri, burnt brown sugar and hints of geranium and pepper.
Flavour: Silky smooth, sweet and subtly tart, a seductive mix of nutmeg and cloves with a core of juniper, becoming spicy and slightly fruity and tart with time, with subtle notes of kumquats and mandarins.
Finish: Long, citrus-dominated finish, hints of rhubarb and various spices.
Total: A wonderfully rich and sophisticated cocktail.

Preparation

Pour into a mixing glass filled with ice cubes, stir well and strain into a cocktail glass. Add a garnish to the drink. To finish, spritz the cocktail once with the flavour atomiser.
