Bohemian No. 11 The Boulevardier 27.0% 700ml

We have Prohibition in the United States to thank for the Boulevardier: American bartenders were forced to find new ways forward or move abroad. Prohibition took New Yorker Harry McElhone via London to Paris, where he opened his legendary Harry’s New York Bar. There, he served pre-Prohibition drinks and new creations, which he perfected using European ingredients. One such creation was the Boulevardier, made with bourbon whisky, Italian red bitter liqueur and Italian vermouth.

Harry published this signature drink – created for his regular patron and editor of the eponymous magazine *The Boulevardier* – in his recipe book in 1927. Flavoured and garnished with orange zest, it is served in a chilled tumbler.

Tasting Notes

Colour: Deep red.
Aroma: Elegant, seductive aromas of berries and vanilla, with a subtle hint of nutmeg and new oak, notes of honey and beeswax.
Taste: Highly aromatic and full-bodied, rustic and oaky, well-rounded bittersweet notes, with an interplay of vanilla, caramel and cinnamon, and subtle hints of cloves and red berries.
Finish: A subtle sweetness that gives way to a very pleasant, tart finish.
Overall: A brilliant fusion of sweet and tart.

Preparation

Pour into a mixing glass filled with ice cubes, stir well and strain into a cocktail glass. Add a garnish to the drink. To finish, lightly mist the cocktail with the aroma sprayer.
