Bohemian No. 9 The Rob Roy 32.0% 700ml

The Before Dinner Drink, which originated in the 1890s, features – unlike the Manhattan – a blended Scotch with Italian vermouth and aromatic bitters. It probably owes its name to a Broadway play based on Sir Walter Scott’s novel *Rob Roy*. In Scotland, however, there is also a widespread story that it is named after Robert MacGregor, the Scottish Robin Hood. This tale goes that the national hero always carried a hip flask with him containing the same mixture.

Whatever the origin of the name, we all agree that the ROB ROY should be served ‘straight up’ in a chilled cocktail glass with a twist of orange zest.

Tasting Notes

Colour: Dark rust-brown.
Aroma: Opulent and ripe, woody notes with smoky undertones, a hint of juicy sultanas and morello cherries, herbs and oranges, very fruity and intense, sweet and malty.
Flavour: Robust and bittersweet, full-bodied with a subtle sweetness, rich in fruit, slightly woody and smoky, with a core of raisins and subtle hints of chocolate and herbs.
Finish: Long, with a herbaceous finish, juicy and full-bodied.
Overall: Perfectly balanced, bittersweet.

Preparation

Pour into a mixing glass filled with ice cubes, stir well and strain into a cocktail glass. Add a garnish to the drink. To finish, lightly mist the cocktail with the aroma sprayer.
