DESCRIPTION
The Meerapfel Behind the Scenes No. 2 is the ‘Toro’ of the range: box-pressed in a 6 x 50 format, elegant and with a harmonious, smooth burn right down to the last puff. With a smoking time of around one and a half hours, it offers plenty of time to savour the delicate, creamy nuances of the blend at your leisure.
The secret of the Roman courtyard
The design of ‘Behind the Scenes’ is inspired by an ancient Roman house with a square courtyard. What took place in such courtyards remained discreet and within the walls – far from the public eye. This gave rise to the line’s central design elements: Roman numerals on the band, a square design and the rectangular shape of the cigars. The packaging draws on concepts from European luxury perfumery: each size has its own colour, and the box is colour-coordinated with the band.
Blend and Format
The blend was created by Jeremiah Meerapfel for his sister Melissa and is deliberately accessible, sweet and creamy. The wrapper is a light Connecticut Shade in Claro, very finely veined, slightly oily and evenly coloured. The filler comes entirely from the Dominican Republic, where the cigar is also hand-rolled. The classic Toro size combines a comfortable ring gauge with sufficient length to allow the flavours to develop evenly.
Flavour and character
When cold, the No. 2 exudes notes of cedar, leather, earth and flowers. In the first third, cedar, cream and nuts combine with toasted bread, a touch of earth, a hint of coffee and a hint of pepper. The manufacturer describes the profile as milk chocolate, gentle pepper and light cedar. The profile remains linear and balanced, with the strength consistently mild. The aftertaste lingers with notes of cream, wood and a subtle spiciness. Towards the end, the cigar can become slightly more bitter – those who skip the last few centimetres will enjoy it at its very best. The draw is pleasant, and the ash is grey and firm.
Who is the No. 2 suitable for?
The No. 2 is the right choice for connoisseurs who love mild cigars but do not wish to compromise on depth of flavour. It is just as suitable for a relaxed afternoon on the terrace as it is for a conversation after dinner. It pairs well with a café crème, a light white wine, champagne or a mild rum.
