DESCRIPTION
The Meerapfel Behind the Scenes No. 3 is the ‘torpedo’ of the range and combines two distinctive features: a tapered head shape and an elegant box-pressed body. In the 6 x 52 format, it concentrates the smoke and delivers the subtle flavours in a concentrated form to the palate. One customer, who compared all six formats, ranked it number one.
Quiet, discreet – yet influential
The name ‘Behind the Scenes’ has a double meaning. It reflects the role the Meerapfel family has played in the tobacco industry over the centuries: behind the scenes, discreetly and quietly, yet with great influence. The family became renowned, amongst other things, for its Cameroon wrappers, which for decades could be found on cigars from other prestigious brands. Today, it steps into the limelight with its own ranges. ‘Behind the Scenes’ is part of the Family Reserve Blends, the brand’s more accessible range, whose tobacco quality nonetheless ranks amongst the very best.
Blend and Format
The wrapper is a light Connecticut Shade with a velvety texture, very fine-veined and slightly oily. The filler consists entirely of Dominican tobaccos. The No. 3 is hand-rolled in the Dominican Republic. The combination of a torpedo tip and box-pressing is unusual and makes the cigar a real eye-catcher. The cut at the tip allows you to adjust the draw exactly as you wish.
Flavour and character
On a cold draw, notes of cedarwood, leather, earth and floral hints emerge. Once lit, the No. 3 unfolds with flavours of toasted bread, pine nuts and cashew nuts, accompanied by nutmeg, creamy butter and a hint of cocoa powder. Cedarwood, cream and a trace of coffee form the mid-palate. White pepper builds steadily right through to the final third without upsetting the balance. Thanks to its torpedo shape, the flavour profile is slightly more intense than with the round formats in the range. The strength remains mild, whilst the aftertaste is creamy, woody and delicately spicy.
Who is the No. 3 suitable for?
The No. 3 is ideal for lovers of figurados who are looking for a mild yet aromatically concentrated cigar. With a smoking time of around one and a half hours, it is perfect for a cosy afternoon or early evening. It pairs wonderfully with an espresso, a cognac or a light single malt.
