Matilde
DESCRIPTION
The Matilde Special Edition 2024 Toro is a special creation by Enrique Seijas and, at the same time, a tribute to his father, José Seijas, a defining figure in the Dominican cigar world. For the first time in a Matilde blend, the focus is on Peruvian tobacco, which José Seijas particularly prized. This is complemented by selected tobaccos from Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic. An Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper and a Nicaraguan binder from Jalapa complete the composition. The result is a well-balanced Toro of medium strength, with complex spiciness and a harmonious interplay of wood, roasted notes, earthiness and creamy undertones.
Matilde Special Edition 2024 Toro with Peruvian tobacco
Measuring 152 mm in length and with a ring gauge of 50, the cigar is presented in the classic Toro format. It is manufactured at the Tabacalera La Isla in the Dominican Republic. The caramel to medium-brown Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper has a fine, oily sheen and displays a natural texture. Particularly intriguing is the filler blend of Dominican, Nicaraguan and Peruvian tobaccos. The Peruvian component, in particular, lends the blend a distinctive aromatic character and is reminiscent of José Seijas’s preference for tobaccos from this growing region.
Wood, roasted coffee and a delicate creaminess
On the palate, the Special Edition opens with cedarwood, earth and a subtle natural sweetness. These are joined by citrus notes, pepper and warm spices. As the smoke progresses, the woody and earthy nuances gain in intensity, whilst roasted flavours and coffee add further depth. Depending on the tasting, notes of nuts, leather and a pleasant creaminess also emerge. Towards the end, the spiciness becomes slightly more pronounced and may be accompanied by cocoa and mineral accents. Overall, the profile remains balanced and is predominantly medium-bodied.
A special creation by the Seijas family
The Special Edition 2024 embodies the fusion of family tradition and the modern art of blending. Enrique Seijas developed this cigar as the first instalment in a series of special blends that focus on matured and exceptional tobaccos. Thanks to its balanced format, the Toro offers plenty of scope for a slow development of flavour and is ideal for a prolonged moment of enjoyment. Connoisseurs of Sumatra wrappers and complex cigars with notes of wood, roasted coffee, nuts and subtle spice will find here a characterful premium cigar with a personal history.
