Dr Jacques Perl, a chemist from Berlin, researched and revolutionised the filtration of tobacco smoke with the company VAUEN and at the same time gave his name to a brand that was soon literally "on everyone's lips". in 1921, Dr Perl was registered as a trademark with the German Imperial Patent Office. It all began with a pure paper filter, which promised high absorbency and minimisation of pollutants thanks to the multi-layered filter paper. There were three different sizes, including 9mm and 6mm filters. VAUEN was thus one of the first manufacturers to equip pipes with a spar hole for filters.
