Opthimus Rum 15-year-old 70cl

The rums are produced by Oliver & Oliver, known since 1990 as Oliver & Oliver Int., based in Santo Domingo Oeste, Dominican Republic. Tracing their origins back to Cuba in the 14th century, the Oliver family has been based in Santo Domingo ever since and has been producing blended rums here under the name Oliver & Oliver since 1997. They have been involved in rum production for much longer and have upheld the Cuban rum tradition throughout. Rums from Panama and Trinidad are also blended at the family’s distilleries.

The company has earned a reputation as a producer of premium rums in small, numbered and limited editions. The quality of Oliver rums stems from their long ageing period of between 3 and 30 years in oak casks and the use of the solera method, under the supervision of Master Blender Don Pedro Oliver. He personally oversees the bottling of every single bottle and, for the finest varieties, certifies the guaranteed quality with a personal signature on each label. The Opthimus rums bear academic honours ranging from ‘Res Laude’ for the 15-year-old to ‘Summa Cum Laude’ for the 25-year-old, as well as a handwritten bottle number and the year of bottling.

Tasting Notes:
Colour: Reddish amber
Nose: Sweetish, toffee and vanilla.
Palate: Honey, coffee, vanilla, toffee, caramel and a hint of dark chocolate

On the finish, the Opthimus 15YO is particularly sweet and rich, yet at the same time smooth, almost velvety. The rich sweetness of toffee alternates with a typically spicy note and lingers on the palate for a very long time. The finish is impressive and distinctive – a true delight with every passing second.
