Secret Treasures
DESCRIPTION
Henry Morgan, born around 1635 in Wales, was one of the most notorious pirates and privateers of the 17th century. He is known for his numerous attacks on Spanish possessions in the Caribbean and for his role in the expansion of English power in the region.
Early life and rise to prominence
Little is known about Morgan’s early life, but it is believed that he arrived in the Caribbean around 1655, possibly as part of a military expedition against the Spanish. He quickly made a name for himself as a successful privateer operating under English letters of marque. These letters, issued by the English Crown, allowed him to attack Spanish ships and colonies without being considered a pirate.
Major achievements
Henry Morgan’s most famous exploits include the sacking of Portobelo (1668) and the siege of Panama City (1671). Portobelo, a heavily fortified town, fell to Morgan’s forces following a surprise night-time attack. The success at Portobelo greatly enhanced Morgan’s fame and wealth.
The attack on Panama City was perhaps his boldest move. Morgan led a force of over 1,000 men through the jungles of Central America to take the city by surprise from the land. The capture of Panama was a significant achievement, although the city was largely destroyed and many treasures were lost.
Later years
Following the sacking of Panama, Morgan was arrested in England, as his attack violated the recently signed peace treaty between England and Spain. Despite this controversy, he was celebrated in England and was eventually knighted in 1674. He returned to the Caribbean as Lieutenant-Governor of Jamaica, where he remained until his death in 1688.
Secret Treasures Henry Morgan

Secret Treasures – rediscovered treasures
‘Secret Treasures’ literally means ‘hidden treasures’. Cigars under the ‘Secret Treasures’ label have usually spent many years in a cigar factory’s ageing humidor. Under the Secret Treasures label, they finally emerge from the ageing humidors after many years to offer a premium smoking experience. Runs are strictly limited, ranging from 500 to 5,000 cigars per batch. Each blend is unique, and once a line has sold out, it cannot be reordered.
