DESCRIPTION
Centuries-old craftsmanship
Little has changed at The Balvenie distillery since it was founded. To this day, the single malts are produced using traditional methods, which give these whiskies their unique flavour.
The Balvenie is the only distillery that still grows its own barley, uses a traditional floor malting process and employs an on-site coppersmith and cooper – which is why The Balvenie remains one of the malts with the highest level of craftsmanship today. Thanks to the close collaboration between David Stewart and the distillery’s own coopers, new types of wooden casks are constantly being produced.
Each whisky has its own individual flavour profile, yet all are rich, exceptionally smooth and underpinned by an unmistakable honey-sweet character.
The Balvenie, together with its sister distillery Glenfiddich, remains independent to this day and is still family-owned by its founders.
Fruity & smooth
The Double Wood is matured for 12 years in ex-bourbon casks and is then transferred to fresh Oloroso casks made of Spanish oak for a 6-month finishing.
Tasting Notes:
Colour: Amber.
Nose: sweet and fruity with Oloroso sherry notes, overlaid with honey and vanilla.
Palate: soft and smooth, nutty sweetness, cinnamon-like spiciness, pronounced sherry character
